OT - Bonnie and Clyde, as requested

curaniel Nov 14, 2011 06:13 PM

These are my ribbon snakes, Bonnie and Clyde, as requested I originally thought they were Western ribbons, but the general lack of dorsal striping makes me think otherwise now. Anyway, they're cute little dorks - big personalities in small packages. These are grainy cell phone pics that I took today, sorry for the quality. I've been trying to breed guppies as feeders for them, which has been a spectacular failure so far.

I like this shot since Clyde decided to "wipe his nose" on Bonnie right when I took the picture, lol!

Eventually I'd like to set up my BRB's tank more like theirs. I probably won't do live plants, but it would be nice to make it prettier. The first step will be getting her radiant heat panel installed, and then I can look into more naturalistic "furniture." She's still small enough to enjoy climbing - am I stuck with plastic branches, or do you guys know of a secret, mold-proof wood that's sturdier than cork? Sorry if I've asked before.

There are some people who keep their Rainbow Boas in naturalistic terraria with live plants. Hopefully one of them will post here with photos and information about the plants. Wood branches of Manzanita and Grapewood are commonly used for reptiles. Some of it that is available from reptile supply places is great looking and some not so much. Driftwood usually does not mold if it has enough salt in it.

Very nice, thanks for honoring the request! Cool snakes. Is that one trying to eat the log?

My dad is technologically challenged, but he used to breed guppies as a side business. If you want, I can ask him if he would be willing to offer some advice.

Thanks,
Ed

Thosse look like fun and very interesting little snakes to keep!!!

You might look into Guava branches. I don't know how hard they are to find, but I have seen a guy who uses guava branches in his BRBs and Water Dragons cages. He keeps them around 80% humidity all the time and says they hold up great and do not mold at all....he's from SA I think though, or wherever guava grows? as he says he just cuts his branches himself.

Anyway, might be worth looking into!

Guava, huh. Never would have thought of that, but it makes sense. Not sure where I could find it around here. I tried the usual grapevine and that was a total bust.
