Last Clutch of the Year _ Part Deux

RG Nov 14, 2011 10:02 PM

As promised to a few folks, here are some higher quality pics of my last clutch of the year.

The parents, both Hypos Het Snow (Hypo-E and Amel):

The clutch:

The first and second pippers...

#1 Ghost 66% Het Amel

#2 Tangerine Hypo 66% Het Snow

Another couple clutch shots:

#3 Tricolor Hypo 66% Het Snow

My attempt to capture the egg tooth:

#4 High Yellow Tricolor Hybino 66% Het Hypoerythristic

#5 High Yellow Tricolor Mega Hypo 66% Het Snow

I know it's difficult to stop looking at the above...but try to continue on...two more to go!

#6 Tricolor Hypo 66% Het Snow

#7 Tangerine Hypo 66% Het Snow

If I have to guess, I think I'm going to be female heavy in this clutch (just like the previous one from an unrelated female).

Now the hard part...which female to hold back!?

Hope you all enjoy the better pics!

-Rusty

Really nice clutch Rusty. That tri-color mega is really nice.

rtdunham Nov 15, 2011 11:12 AM

hey don, can you post pix, as proposed in the post by herby07 below, of that unique snake as an adult? if there's a closeup of the red tipping, include that, eh?!

RG Nov 16, 2011 12:37 PM

too!

Have one?

I still haven't reached the kind of results you had Terry...maybe in a few years I'll hit the real jackpot with all the outcrossing I'm doing now!?

That's one of my main goals, to make this line more robust. Every year is another step in the right direction!

Congrats Rusty!!!! Lovely clutch of knockouts. Here is the one you were referring to on the message. Sorry, been swamped and out of the game. Ask Don to post up the adult pics of him now. He was still pretty light in adulthood with red tipping. A unique animal to say the least.

RG Nov 16, 2011 12:30 PM

VERY similar man...hopefully Don can post an updated pic of him soon.

Glad you are alive and kicking!

Talk to you later,
Rusty

Wow, what a fantastic clutch. It illustrates all that's good and exciting about breeding hondo morphs. Believe me, I know from years of experience what you're feeling!

The mega-whatever is spectacular. And you've got a great core breeding group there, to pursue more of them. Well done.

Well if I had to blame one person for the Hondo bug...you'd be it!

Let me know when you want a project pair, I'll be happy to hook you up!

All real nice Rusty. Drool, drool, drool! Of course like everyone else I love that tri-color best, but I find that #7 tangerine to be very attractive.

Yep, that last one is really different too, as far as the Hypos in the clutch he's (assuming a male) is my second favorite!

Great stuff, Rusty! animal #4 is my pick of the litter. I am a sucker for pinners. Great looking animal as are the rest.

I noticed it looks like you slit your eggs. I tried that once with one egg and the snake crawled out prematurely without the yolk sac being fully absorbed. how do yours not have that issue?

Dave

RG Nov 16, 2011 12:26 PM

DO!

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone to be 100% honest Dave...but I do it for two reasons.

#1
I had a few great looking snakes, fully formed, die in the egg (many years ago) and I attributed it to not being able to cut thru the egg. Can you imagine if that screamer Tricolor was the only one to not make it out?

#2
Just wanting to know what I have, especially on important clutches.

I don't cut windows in the eggs until the first neonate of the clutch has emerged and has been out for about a day. I think this is a good rule of thumb and I've never had any issues with the remaining neonates.

Also, when I cut windows, I do it VERY carefully...it would be hard to describe in text, but it's an intense surgical procedure for sure!

Something else to consider, I don't control the incubation temps via a incubator as such, basically the eggs are subjected to room temps which fluctuate between 84-74 degrees F. This temp range results in a longer incubation time overall, but the neonates always seem to be healthy and larger, so it's worth the extra time in my opinion.

Hope that helps answer your question?

All of those are just amazing. Congrats on such a variety of hatchlings from that clutch. I always tell people that breeding Honduran morphs makes a hatching day feel like Christmas.

Let us know what you decide to keep. Obviously the mega tricolor is an easy choice but maybe keep the ghost since it is a definite double homozygous morph?

RG Nov 16, 2011 12:08 PM

Exactly Rob...just like X-mas in every clutch!

That's really why I like them so much, every egg is a surprise.

Oh, and yes I'm obviously going to keep the Tricolor:

99% sure it's a male...

and it's down to one of these if they are both female...

Hybino 66% Het Anery

or

Ghost 66% Het Amel

I will keep you posted!

I really hope my luck continues into next year...depending on how things go/grow, I could have a few more unproven females to breed this same adult male to!

Here are the two tri-color extreme mega hypos that came from Rodney JTineant. The smaller one is lighter but the larger one is more tri-color. They are both double het and the same age.

RG Nov 16, 2011 08:43 PM

Thanks for posting the pics!

The "Mega" gene is really nice...whatever it turns out to be!

They are both better in person for sure!

Truly Awesome!
