Can I see some pics of your hide boxes?

cfresh79 Nov 16, 2011 04:48 PM

I am getting my boys a new ball for christmas. Theirs died last year. I threw out the old stuff that was in the enclosure and am going to redecorate. just want some ideas about home made hide spots. I am especially curious about setting up a humid hide box. Thanks

P.S: Do any of you put climbing equipment in the cage? I had a tree branch that went from one corner to the other and he seemed to enjoy basking on the branch close to the heat sometimes.

Here is a pic of our old snake and his cage

They aren't decorative, but this is what I use.

I use small cat litter boxes with a cave door cut out in the front. Not nice looking but very easy to clean.

Hello,
First of all, sorry about the snake that died. May I ask how?

I actually don't use hides anymore because my snakes never used them and their small tubs are secure enough. But when I did, the dollar store was my friend!! There are tortilla containers there that are the perfect size for an adult ball, and are a dark brown in color. For a large adult ball python there are also small kitty litter boxes that are jet black in color and would make a GREAT secure hide for a snake in a tank. If you don't like the looks of plastic in the cage you can always bury it in substrate.

I thought he died of old age. I was told when we got him he was a retired breeder and was approx 6-7 years old. We had him 6 years. My vet told me that was an average life span for a ball. But reading on here it was actually probably not a full life span, unless he was much older when we got him. He never had any health problems while in our care, always ate well, had good sheds and was well taken care of. So I am not sure why he passed. But we are getting a young one this time, so I will be expecting a long hardy life out of him. LOL

That is what I use, and with the variety of sizes, they can grow with your snakes.

as mentioned...dollar stores...look around...anything can work...cereal boxes were old school...pop tart boxes were sweet...LOL...

lasagna comes in plastic boxes...unless you actually cook it from scratch...

Nissan noodles come in black plastic now...cool....can't believe Travis didn't pop in a pic of his new improved noodle hides he got....LOL...

plastic litter pans...,bowls...boxes...anything you like...clay pots...clay pot bases....plastic flower pots or bases>>as shown drilled out....

you can even just throw a black (or other) bowl in there right side up and they will lay in it with comfort....

........just make sure you don't put in a death trap...holes too small....

...we don't use branches because we all use RaXx

We are going to pick him up tomorrow. I went and picked up a litter box and cut a large hole in it and filled it in with moist bedding, he has a clay pot bottom for soaking/drinking and a half log hide store bought. I didn't realize we were getting a young guy hatched this year so he is going to be livin large in a 100 gallon aquarium. We will see how he does. I may throw in a couple pop tart boxes since I have 2 kids and We have those around the house.
