any problems with dry live moss for terrariums?

guppygal Oct 02, 2003 02:31 PM

I just received my order of moss from Tropiflora, along with some plants. The moss looks fine, but I have heard somewhere that I shouldn't use live moss in my dart frog tank. Is dry live moss the same thing? I don't want to kill my frogs before I get them.

Also, I have lots of moss and certainly won't be using it all. Any suggestions how I can keep it long term and/or dispose of it to other froggers or terrarium owners?

BTW, the plants were not as I expected - I was very disappointed.

The moss should do fine once it recieves a little water/moisture in the tank. As far as not using it for frogs, it should be perfectly safe to use...especially since it is a tropical species. I have not ordered from Tropiflora myself, but have heard good comments on their plants. If you aren't 100% satisfied with your order, then I would honestly call/email them and let them know how you feel. Best of luck with your new hobby!

I appreciate your kind words - I'm looking forward to my new critters.

I did send a non-accusatory e-mail, but no response yet. I'm not a complainer, but 2 of the 4 plants had leaf-burn and one of them was so tiny, I never would've paid what I did for it. I'm hoping they all survive. I guess I was the lucky one that got the leftovers. I've had very good luck with mail-order plants before, but this wasn't it.

Thanks for the advice on the moss!
