Anyone taken one to the face?

johnthebaptist Nov 21, 2011 08:43 PM

it seems 90% of snake bites i see or hear about are too the hands for obvious reasons. I have came across more than a few people though who have taken a hit to the face. more specifically around the eye area. In every case it was a Boid of sort. Tell me about getting tagged in the face, what you were doing and why you think you got bit. I have been bitten a thousand times but never to the face and never by a large boid. Sounds awful.

In the face (pun intended... thank you... thank you) of impending legislation, I would hope no one would be stupid enough to post something like that which could be used against our hobby to fuel the legislative fire.

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

I would never intentionally do anything that i thought could be used against the hobby and i certainly doubt that conversations about snake bites would fuel legislation. It may possibly turn off potential pet owners but i do not necessarily think that is a bad thing. A bite to the face from a large boid is a very real possibility. I have heard enough accounts to want to ask a larger community just to see how often it happens. My question may seem like morbid curiosity but it is not. I remember reading that boids often go for the face and im not prone to believe everything i read. which of course is why i asked my question.

Leave that up to the pros! JEFF CORWIN, STEVE IRWIN, BRADLY BARR. I think I've seen all of them get tagged on the face by a boa python and colubrid's on national TV. Thank god they are Educating in this process. Im sure very seldom a private breeder or snake owner gets tagged in the face because he/she has read up about their pet and taking most precautions when it come to caring for their pet/breeder. But I'm sure it happens a lot around the world to snake owners. Im sure these are not the people on these forums though. Those other people buy a snake because they want to flaunt it out to public areas and show off because it makes them cool and so they can say I have a exotic pet. No education or true love or passion behind it at all. just my 2 cents probably badly written as well LOL.

I got bit by a very strong 12 ft green anaconda on the side of my head.. Felt like someone punched me, then my hair was bleeding.. First time that animal ever struck

I have luckily never been bit in the face by a boa. i normally offer them a paper towel role when I first open the cage to see if they are going to stike at something and then once they are out, i seldom have any aggressive behavior. Most of my bites to the hand have been associated with feeding - when I wasn't being careful enough.

I know one thing though.. if I do end up getting bit in the face by one of my snakes... I'm not going to be able to blame the snake. that's part (or potentially part) of keeping any animal.

She was a yearling, and I picked her up near my face to look at her closely. She stuck me directly on the top lip. A little blood but nothing major. I just told everyone she was trying to kiss me.
