How soon after breding do females.....

kdreptiles Nov 22, 2011 03:13 AM

wrap around their water dish?

It's been 20 days since I first introduced my male to my female. Right now she is wrapped tightly around her water dish and for the past week she has been on the cool end of the cage. Se is in shed.

I've done plenty of research on breeding and know the steps of female developing behavior, but I must have missed the part that talks about how many days after copulation each step happens.

Is this possible developing behavior so soon, or is it too early and she's just hugging her water bowl for $#!ts and giggles? :P

I personally, wouldn't bank on "water bowl wrapping" as any sign! I've bred many pythons w/out ever seeing that behavior, and have also observed it in males! Do I think they're trying to cool? Yes, I do, but wouldn't be looking for it!

Basically any time between a day to eight months.

Well...I comend you for doing research and reading books...however..in order for things to go as they are spelled out in the books..you must get the snake to read the books too!!

I fully argee with the above statement lol. I've had a female go through the steps and never shed once for me before she laid so I had NO idea when she was going to lol. Every time is different lol

I commend you on doing your research. But the fact is just because they lock once, twice or a dozen times does not mean she will lay eggs. and they will and do bowl wrap anytime, it can be an indication but not a true method of knowing she is gravid unless you see her ovulate and then post ov shed I would continue to introduce male with her. good luck

Hence the smiley.

,but if you want to get technical about it..They do in fact have the inner ear workings, just not the outer ear that mammals have.

you will get eggs from April 7th to Sept 23...somewhere in between those dates...

trust me...

good luck...

my males wrapped too....

Wrapping around the cool water bowl is a sign of follicle-building. She will need to be with a male more...if you had
an ultrasound machine you could tell exactly! Good Luck!
