you can tell right away that its not a leopard gecko, but it is definatelly a gecko which is related to the leopard gecko! Unfortunally i can't tell which species it is, some sort of eyelid gecko, ground livig gecko. maybe someone alse knows which species it is?!?

nasr_36 Oct 02, 2003 04:38 PM

...not sure.

maybe some type of Coleonyx? (doubt it)

...though i dont think its related to Eublepharis.

iluvblackfrancis Oct 02, 2003 04:50 PM

i still can't see the pic. so im just going by that it looks to be a eublapharid gecko, and resembles the cleonyxs. it could be a cat gecko? if you could tell us where you got it, it'd help us. if you found it wild, chances are it's a banded gecko, barefoot gecko, or reticulated gecko.

It's hard to find a pic of one of these online. Perhaps it's a hatchling Switaki or something, which I can't find a picture of online right now.

If it is Switaki, it' cannot be collected without a permit, according to this page

I don't know about anyone else.. but that picture looks kind of doctored to me.. The lighter colored yellow ovals.. look at them closeup and you'll see faded oout dark spots in them.. very small ones but there..Also the yellow color has been faded out at the tail right after the first black band and washes into the white and over the black band which it shouldn't. The legs have been smoothed to that uniform color.. look closely at them and you see those tiny dots in some places but the rest looks pixilated.. *shrugs* Its a real species of gecko but the coloring I believe is all wrong.

All C. switaki from that locality hatch out with that coloration. It's actually more striking in person. The color fades as the animals mature and at this particular spot the adults look much more brown.

if its not photoshopped, thats a crazy color!
A very nice looking gecko! the pic on the rock reminds me of prehistoric pets though.

it's either photo-shopped, or the person who took the pic has very little knowledge of cams, as barefoots do not glow, and are not really that bright.

or has warped knowledge of what photography looks like. Then again its easier to insult someone than to give credit right???

Nishyel

iluvblackfrancis Oct 04, 2003 12:00 AM

while it's true i no nothing about computers, but i studied photography for 2 years so far, and plan on going to a photography college. the setup of the pic is good, but if thats how the colors are in the actual shot, then there is error in exposure time, or something. i didn't mean to insult you, but don't be so sensitive.

Just answer the QUESTION!!!

iluvblackfrancis Oct 02, 2003 11:42 PM

i don't think it looks very much like a banded gecko. although it's from the same genus, and the body shape is similar, the pattern isn't very banded gecko-ish. i'm 100% possitive it is a barefoot gecko.

This looks for as a young Coleonyx switaki. Really nice one. Do you keep this kind ?

It looks like someone has edited a picture of leopard gecko with photoshop. Just my opinion.

Fritz Oct 03, 2003 08:30 PM

what kind of response did you expect, coming to a gecko forum and saying they should be fed to snakes.

hahaha thats almost as funny as asking someone how they knew that picture wasn't a leopard gecko.
I think there are snake forums around here somewhere where you'll find those pictures of snakes you're looking for.
