I've kept my 3 adult Hog Islands on shredded aspen since I've had them. The last 7 years I've been able to buy it locally relatively cheaply. I have no reserves left and none of my local retail shops are able to stock the product anymore. The big box chain has it for 15.99 plus tax...one bag this size will do 1 cage slightly sparingly. These boas are not fed in their cages so there is extremely little chance of ingesting the substrate.

What alternatives for beeding would be advisable besides newspaper/paper liners? I'll be looking into lab grade shredded aspen and for local distributors but think such small quantities will make it too expensive to purchase in smaller amounts.

Thanks for any suggestions.
