Striped Brazilian Rainbow Boas

Jeff Clark Nov 23, 2011 11:33 PM

I picked up these two striped Brazilian Rainbow Boas from Nick and Candy Garofalo. They had two litters of BRBs this year and there are striped babies in both litters. About half the babies have some degree of striping though most are less striped than these two. Many of the babies in both litters are darker than these two very pretty orange colored ones. One or two dark ones are more extremely striped than these two. Many of the unstriped babies in the litters have slightly odd patterns with some showing slight blushing of the spots on the sides like one of these two exhibits. Both litters were fathered by the same male and so I suspect that if this is a genetic mutation he is the carrier. They got the male at a pet shop here in Georgia and do not know anything more than that about his background. One of the females is from Dave Colling and they got the other female from me but we think it is one I had purchased or gotten in trade from another breeder. There are still lots of unanswered questions about why these stripes showed up in these litters.

That's pretty cool Jeff. Would you be able to post any pictures of the parents?

Forgot to mention that all three parents are completely normal looking. Have not noticed if any of the babies have pink tongues.

Those have colored up a lot fom the pics Nick shared with me. Pretty cool!!!

Maybe the father is a very low expression carrier of a dominant gene?
