Each snake is an individual. Just like you don't react the same as other people the snake won't act the same as another snake. Some will hiss, puff up, play dead, or a combination of those. Some will not do anything. BTW, if it happens to be a fresh caught eastern, I would release it. It is the end of toad season and it will most likely die over winter. Andy
