HELP! Just got a new baby male R. Brev....

trinacliff Oct 02, 2003 04:01 PM

and I put him in with my female R. Brev. She looked at him focused in on him and began to open her mouth and shoot her tongue at him!! She wasn't gaping, and she didn't act like she was trying to scare him away...she looked like she was going to try to EAT him! He's tiny, but she's little too...I'd say she's an 1" long...and he's much smaller. She is about 5 months old and he's like 9 weeks. I thought they would be ok together. What's up with this? EEEEK! I promptly took him out and put him back in what I transported him in...but I don't have an enclosure for him...what to do?

Must have been pretty funny and cute. I remember when i was cleaning the enclosures for my chams a long time back in the days when my chams were still babies, and i temporarily set my panthers on a tree. My SMALLER male panther tried to eat my BIGGER male panther when they both were about 3 months old! Must be a pretty confident fella. The little guy shot his tongue at the big guy, and the big guy ran away. I seperate them immediately. I also once tried to put my older female, about 6 month at that time, in a cage with a younger female, about 5 months at that time, and the younger one eyed and stalked the older cham, like she normally stalks a cricket. and oh, the younger one was twice the size of the older one...by the way. I got nervous and immediately seperated them.

All i can say is, you'd better seperate you chams. You don't want to find your males head stuck in the mouth of your female. LOL!

and NOT CUTE! hahaha This really puts a kink in my plans. I was just going to put him in there, let her have her boyfriend and both live happily ever after (having babies, too, if they so desire...LOL). AND, I'm leaving Friday night until Saturday afternoon...my hubby will be here to care for them, but I was just gonna say, feed, spray and spray again. Now, having them in two separate enclosures is going to throw him for a loop...LOL...no, not really...but still. I'm mad at her...the little brat.

They are seperated, but the poor little guy is on fake plants with a fake vine in a tupperware thing. LOL!

Now, instead of calmly packing tomorrow, I have to frantically pack, clean out the 10 gallon, kick my "surrogate" lizard out and set him up in there. Or maybe I'll put them in there with plexiglass between them...you think??? OUCH...what if she tries to shoot him through the plexiglass...guess that'll teach her.

Then, little surrogate lizard can go in the five gallon...sounds good in theory, what do you all think?

Will this little brat ever accept him into her domain? I think I"ll try neutral territory next time...and then maybe she won't be such a b*t%#

Kristen-

May be try putting the male in a critter keeper and place him in main tank with the female. This may get her to calm down and get use to him, then you can let him out. This will protect them both! You can also watch there behavior this way before they come face to face. Also I would not worry about feeding if you are going to be gone for a day they will be fine with out food, just have him mist!
