My Funky Boy - photo

oc-balls Nov 30, 2011 10:47 AM

He finally had his first shed, so I thought I’d share a photo. Anyone think he’s something other than a Normal?
His dad looks just like him – he fathered 2 clutches this year, and reproduced himself a couple of times in each clutch.

What am I?

Thanks for looking,
Ken

Can we see pics of the dad?

I would guess maybe het red axanthic. If you have/can get a known female het red I'd breed her to dad or this guy and see if you get red axanthics to prove them out. How big was the clutch and was he the only one that looked like this?

He's handsome.

There were 9 eggs in this clutch, but 5 of them went bad. Four of them went bad within a couple of weeks, but one did go almost full term, and it looked just like dad as well. There is one female that looks a little different, but not nearly as extreme as this guy.

There was another clutch of 6 eggs, and 3 of them have dad’s looks (all males).

I have an adult female that will be ready to breed this season – she’s a little funky, and I think she’ll make a good pairing for dad. I’ll post her pic next.

This is dad

Thank you!

I definitely think he and dad are het reds. If you have a cinny you can make gargoyles in addition to the good recommendation with black pastels in the post below.
Congrats!

Yeah, what you have there is a Het Red Axanthic. If your Black pastel is upto size make some Onyx's.

ChrisOz Nov 30, 2011 06:32 PM

Yup Het red nice one too. Dad looks good himself. Get him a cinny or pastel they are cheap enough you wont be sorry.

JYohe Nov 30, 2011 06:33 PM

he would be a semi-genetic -semi-black backed ....

I used to make alot of black back balls...

throw some to pastels (or pastel combos)....and see if you can get black backed pastels ....if they get highlighted centers to the stripe it gets really cool....
