Unrelated ???? Just havin fun

dan80woma Nov 30, 2011 04:59 PM

It amuses me when I see ads and pics of "unrelated" albinos , VPI's , BW Caramels, motleys........... They are all pretty closely related. I would prefer to see verbage such as non sibling or outcrossed. Unrelated is kinda like 100% het !!! It just bugs me a little bit.

I hear ya on the "unrelated" part but whats with the 100% het part? I guess ive never given it much thought?

Jonathan_Brady Nov 30, 2011 08:59 PM

but I always thought I was the only one who it really bothered that much.

And I agree with the 100% het thing too.

They're both up there with "redtail bci". BCI's ARE NOT REDTAILS!!!!!!

Another annoyance is "dog tame". A tame dog won't rip your face off it slightly smells like dog food. But a boa will rearrange your face if it smells like rat!

What about an ad selling a 1.1 pair of dog tame completely unrelated 100% het "redtail bci"? I think I'd jump off a building! lol

Great post Dan! Needed to be said

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

is it also "het for moonglow"?

WMM76 Dec 01, 2011 01:36 AM

Heck, while we're at it, how many so-called red-tails actually have red tails? BCI, the so-called "true red-tails" of the BCC group, it doesn't matter...if it doesn't have a red tail, it shouldn't be called a red-tailed boa. At least in my opinion.

Yeah, yeah, i know that one can argue that there are many shades of red, but in the vast majority of boas posted, there is no red in the tails.

That, along with the 100 % het thing, is something I have never understood. It's used too loosely and it does confuse people who are new to the hobby.

Has anyone else thought about this?

Dan,

In all fairness on the 100% Het. thing, I have had plenty of customers ask me if my "Het." was guranteed, so I believe this is just to ward off the occasional unnecessary questions.

And I do agree that the unrelated thing is overused a bit, but I think people who have not been around since the inception of such morphs don't consider that they all orginally came from 1 snake, so they use the term loosely in that regard.

Sorry for playing devils advocate a little here, I just see boths sides of the arguement.

I dont lose any sleep over 100% het, just stirring the pot a little bit.

voodoomagik Dec 01, 2011 12:12 PM

I agree on both counts.

About the 100% thing, what bothers me is when you see an animal is advertised as a “het” and later hidden in the text of the ad is the fact that it is a possible het OR, even worse, when an animal is advertised as a “het” but then it is explained that it comes from a het to het recessive breeding.

Technically all animals are related depending on how far back you go.

Genetically all human beings can trace their roots back to one single female if you keep going.
