rct4pc Oct 02, 2003 05:25 PM

This is the first time i've see my gecko shed.

What are some basics about sheding?
How long dose it take? Should i handle him while hes sheding? Shoud I feed him while hes sheding?

When my gecko sheds i treat him the way I normally do... It shouldnt take long, when i usually see mine abotu to shed/shedding it's at night and they are pretty much done by the time i wake up. Make sure you have a humid hut since it will help them... The only thing you have to worry about is their feet/toes... Make sure the skin comes off of them or it will cut off the circulation and can result in a lost toe(s). This is all i know from experience, but im still a newbie.

Depends on the Leo. One of my albino's just shed tonight(took a few pics). She was pretty much done and overwith in 15-20 min...possibly less. I caught her when she just started peeling from the head and she didn't quite like the pic taking cause she couldn't see very well. Came back about 20 min later and she was all done.

Afterwards, be sure to check and make sure that all the old skin is gone...specially around the toes. Make sure the humid hide is indeed humid cause it helps in the shedding process. Sit back and watch cause it can be quite entertaining at times and definitly a sight to see the first time or 10.

If there is skin left around the toes take a cotton-swab(moistened) and gently rub the leftover skin off like a glove etc. You should be gtg...

My leo just shed last night. It usually takes a couple hours from when the skin first starts to come off until its all done. I agree with making sure you have a humid hide and check their toes when all done.
