I have just realised the heat mat isn't working correctly I have put hot water bottle in and pit his tank next to radiator

Wot else can I do until I get out tomorrow to buy new heat mat

Does this usually resolve when he is at the right temp again?.

Really not enough info. Can you take a picture of it? Did you say you called a Vet? It could be impactation which can be easily manipulated, or it could be something much worse. Putting him too close to a heater could cook him or dehydrate him to death also. Do you have a heating pad? You could put it under one end of the tank, giving him a selection of temps. But really you haven't given enough info to know what's wrong with his swelling.

Looking at the anatomy it looks like swelling in the rectum, ave put hot water bottle under tank, ave read about bathing would this help?

He did reguratate hus last mouse bit he's a real funny eater and has been for years.

He is still active bright shiny scales and eyes just shed 1 week ago.

How long does it take to resolve if constipation

I phoned a vet they says it sounded like constipation but not expert in snakes and to try heating him up

Thanx

I would not waste my time or money on bringing a snake to a vet that doesn't know any reptile medicine, you will only end up giving the vet your money and still have a snake that is probably worse off still because the vet wasted so much valuable time spinning his/her wheels doing nothing when the snake could have been actually getting treated somewhere else.

It could be a lower intestinal infection too that needs some antibiotics to treat, but the cloaca needs to be EXAMINED by a reputable reptile vet somehow to get swabbed for a bacteria culture, etc...

Hope the snake gets better man!

........very likely irrigated with some solution to help with possible impaction, infection/inflammation as well..

I have been able to manually push out a hardened feces that was stuck near the vent before, but I am hesitant to tell you that , because if it's some other problem, you'll just make it worse. If it feels like a hard lump it may be a turd stuck there. If it feels mushy it's most likely some infection. Does the swelling start after the vent like in it's scent gland or hemipene?

A swollen restum are is not normal. Also this is not heat or heat pad related and heat will not solve it .

Find a vet who keeps their own snakes. Otherwise you will find lots of vets who say they specialize in reptiles. But they really don't. they just go in the back and read up on whatever. When the snake dies they are not liable and took you money. Which is most likely the case here.

They will charge you for fecal exams to see what parasites there are. Then the meds they will give the snake probably will kill it or make the snake suffer for an extended persion and then dies..

Save you money unless you can take it to a vet with REAL experince in reptiles. Don't beleive what their receptionists says either.

I don't know what state you are in but call some large scale reptile breeder near you and ask them which vet they use. Do some detective work finding out who (if any) large breeders are in you area. That is the ticket to finding a good vet.

otherwise I would overnight the snake to a vet who does know about snakes. There are a handful around the country and shipping them a snake is something they are used to.
