December 2nd BRB Litter

Jeff Clark Dec 03, 2011 10:21 PM

This is my last litter of the year. The mother is Flo. This is her third? litter. I detected fetal heart tones exactly two months ago and that is the earliest I have ever been able to detect them using the Doppler. This year I started using lots more sonogram gel when using the doppler and that seems to be making a big difference. There were 3 or more slugs, 4 fullterm stillborns and 7 healthy babies. Flo ate one or more slugs. It looks like the entire litter was born already broken out of the membranes. This litter really left Flo looking emaciated. She will not be bred again until 2013. The babies are pretty good looking with nice light color and big crescents. Several of them have already eaten live pinky rats. Sex ratio is 6 males and one female. My BRB litters have mostly been male heavy this year.

Hey Jeff, I'm sorry to hear about the stillborns. At least you still have 7 healthy babies. It's interesting that you've had a male heavy year. Do you have any thoughts on what may have caused that?

Congrats and some good looking babies in there. IMO a good litter even with the slugs and stills.

How male heavy were you? I was almost dead even (88.87) until my last litter (1.8) pushed me the other way to 89.95.

What cage is she in? Has the curved granite look of a vision but also looks deep and narrow.
