I am reading a lot about people's uros brumating. It doesn't get very cold here in Sacramento, it still feels like summer right now! (It's in the upper 80's low 90's every day). Should I be trying to make it cooler for my uros? Their cages are kept very warm, and the outside temperature doesn't affect the temperature inside the cage. Last year, the Mali uro didn't hibernate at all. Is this bad? He grows steadily year-round, eating the same amounts. During the months of December - February, they don't get much if any natural sunlight, yet this doesn't really seem to change their sleeping or eating patterns. From March - about the middle of November, they get about 3 hours average sunlight every day. So they know what season it is by the change in the time spent in sunlight. Is brumation vital?
