Glad you like them Gerard........

Here is the parent breeder group you wanted to see.

~Doug

The abberant/striped male as a hatchling....mislabeled "female"..and forgot to edit it to male..LOL!

same aberrant male as he matured more.......

The mother of them as a young sub-adult

The darker male as a hatchling. He is the one in the very top photo breeding photo believe it or not..

The same darker male as he lightened up nicely and was a bit more mature

another old pic of the mother when she was very young

Can't wait to see how those guys develope for you as they mature!.

Those are awesome!!! Are they about the same as the easterns when it comes to get them feeding on mice?

DMong Dec 06, 2011 04:32 PM

Well, yeah, many OBX can sometimes be pretty stubborn about getting to accept un-scented F/T pinks at first. Some will right from the start, while many others can take a very LONG time and alot of different scenting techniques such as cornsnake parts and/or heavy skink scenting until they finally figure it out. Some want NOTHING to do with cornsnake, skink or anole for a very long while either! Some may very well accept live pinks that wouldn't touch FT, but I don't know this because I don't breed any live here like I did when I had my own house in south Florida, and the closest place is a 20 mile round trip at $2 per pink and I don't care too much for the guy that runs the reptile dept there anyway, so I only go there as an extreme last resort if ever..LOL!

So in short, yes,!....some of these can be a real pain in the ARSE to initially get going, but when they DO, they are just like any other ravenous getula and will come shooting out wanting to grab anything in front of them. I just wish all of them were like that initially!...

Yeah, those took to live pretty well after a fairly short stubborn period. They sure do take off once that happens..LOL!

OK very interesting. Do you usually get them started before you sell them?
-----

DMong Dec 06, 2011 07:14 PM

Yes,...ALWAYS!, unless a very experienced buyer agrees to take the resposibility on themselves, they are always kept here until they are feeding very dependably. Jorge agreed to do this as a matter of fact, and I knew he would definitely be able to get them going well and thriving. When a buyer isn't very experienced with getting stubborn hatchling snakes going, it can usually be way more than they can deal with, so I always keep them here until they voluntarily feed on F/T and are feeding very dependably so the people don't have any problems. I find it far better and responsible to the customers and the snakes to keep them here and work with them for as long as it takes to get them well-started, rather than the customers having problems after they recieve them. This would only get people unhappy and snakes that might die in the process, or have to be returned, etc.., so to me it is much easier to only ship them when I KNOW they will do well as soon as they get to their new homes. I have never had anyone tell me a snake (of any kind) they got from me wasn't eating......ever!..

That's good man and that's the way it should be done. I would buy from you in a heart beat, I just need to down size my collection. lol But those OBX kings are something special.
-----

DMong Dec 06, 2011 08:34 PM

Yep, it sure is Ross, and thanks for the good word bro. Yeah, snakes certainly don't have to be multi-morph combinations or have dazzling colors to be very special as you said. The Louisiana Pinesnake would definitely be just one great example of a very subdued and VERY special type of snake too. As many of us know, breeders don't play a part with many special types of snakes out there in the world. Sure there are many types with loud colors and patterns that are certainly cool, but it isn't always a pre-requisite of what makes a snake "special".

Many of those Cal. kings you find and work with are good examples of that as well. Some of those isolated locality-specific hypermelanistics aren't exacly "eye-popping" either, but those are very unique and special. And that killer light "milk chocolate" colored hypo you personally found sure as heck fits the bill of being very special too. I would flip if I stumbled onto some stuff like that..LOL!
