So here's what happened I used to use a Ranco on/off thermostat at 3 degree differential set at 99 degree. Probe taped on the flex watt. Ceramic heater off to the side set at 80 degrees

-This setup kept my cages pretty nice around 87 in the back fluctuating slightly by a degree or two. And the front of the cage stayed at a nice 77 to 78 degrees.

I wanted to switch to a proportional thermostat because I'm adding a rack to setup so I figured I'd get a Herpstat 4 so that I could run all my racks and be on a proportional thermostat. Plus I had to rearrange my room to fit the new rack so now instead of the ceramic heater being off to the side now it's straight on. Anyway. I have the Herpstat set at 102, and the heat probe in the exact same spot, but for some reason the Herpstat is only heating the back of the cages up to about 82 degrees. I don't know if I like the 80 degree cool spot or not, but I don't have any thermal variance. I could get variance by lowering the heater to like 75, but I'd rather get the hot spot up to 85. So far it hasn't really affected my collection, but I really want to give them some thermal variance. Any suggestions on what to do? And can anyone explain why at three degrees warmer in settings the Herpstat is heating at 3 degrees cooler? I temped the flex watt and it is also heating up at a lower temp than it did with the Ranco.
