baby king not feeding

genlelow Oct 02, 2003 07:25 PM

about two weeks ago i got a baby goini and he seems to be doing fine...but he is awfully difficult to feed. i have tried live and frozen, but have only had luck with f/t pinkies. because of his small size...the f/t pinkies seem to be the best cause they are the smallest. i have gotten him to eat twice now in about a 2-3 week period of time. everytime he has eaten i put him in a closed container that is dark..and within a few minutes, hehas eaten. but, today he didn't eat. i gave him live pinkies and he seems really scared to get near them even though they barely move. i don't know what to do...i froze the pinkies so that i could preserve their small size and so they wouldn't die. i will try feeding him again.

i have fed young kingsnakes before, but never this young. am i doing something wrong? i guess i will keep on trying. the snake seems healthy, he shed at the beginning of the week and he seems very active and healthy. will this feeding problem subside over time?? please help

Just be grateful that he is eating at all. I've still got one hatchling this year that I am force feeding every three days. Don't worry, once he gets a little older that voracious king appetite will kick in. One pink a week at this time is plenty of food.

ok, so decided to try feeding again today...and honestly, what i did was pretty nasty. i cut two pinkies inhalf when they were still frozen, then put them in a cup of hot water, which i usually do to thaw out mice. well, as they warmed up one of the halfs had its intestines starting to spill out. i took them out witha PLASTIC fork and put them on a paper towel in the contain i use to feed my snakes. wow...what a site. i hope he eats these now...i went to great lenghts to gross myself out for his lunch...
