I'm sure a couple of you here bred mexican milks more than a few times. Anyone keep track of weights or lengths? I'm curious as to how big the smallest breedable males were.

Hey Mike,
I don't have exact measurements for you because I can't find the records of a male I used to use but I know he was under 100 grams and not very long. With males, I would give them a shot at 18 months of age and see what they can do.

It's been years since I bred them Mike but had a male around 18 months old that had been a slow feeder it's first few months and while I'm guessing, it must have been no more than 13-15 inches that bred sucessfully. As I said though, it's been several years and I can't be sure of his length but he was quite small for an annulata to breed sucessfully.

I've never kept track of my males gram weight on their first breeding but I've had 100% success when my females get to 125gr. My males are the same size on their first breeding so I would assume that they'd breed around the 100-125gr range on their first breeding. On a side note, when you breed a female at 125gr you'll only get 2-4 eggs and it really depletes their body weight making it almost impossible to get a second clutch. I'd suggest that if you breed a young female to not try double clutching her and just concentrate on putting on more body weight for the next season. This will ensure that you'll get more egg production out of her during the next season

Looks like most of my annulata are ready to go then. And I feel like my 08 Spotted female and 08 Albino female could double clutch for sure.
