Which is the best to use on mites and how would you use it??
Thanks,
Steve
My father and I have used Nix for as long as I can remember(20 yrs), and have never had a mite problem.
We treat all our snakes and any new ones we may pick up at shows as soon as we return from a show. Also, if we have an animal shipped to us, they get treated with Nix before being put away into quarantine.
The way we use it is we use a small deli cup and make a mix up of about 1/2(Nix) and 1/2(Water). Enough water to just a little more than cover the bottom and then what amounts to about the same amount of Nix. We apply it with a gauze pad(bigger size) from nose to tip of tail. Leave the animal sit in the container for 20min - 25min, then rinse it off of them(It CAN NOT stay on the animal), and dry them with a paper towel or two before being put away into proper room.
Hope that helps!!
Also just as a preventative measure, we keep a few(2-3 for a smaller room) No Pest Strips in the snake rooms. Just make sure that snakes can't get to em and kids can't get to em either.
I was told a couple years back, that they don't make "No Pest Strips" anymore! The government put the "kabosh" on them! Where'd you find em?
I just bought one at Lowes last night. It was $7 for one.

....when I used ProVentaMite , it seemed as though they were drinking the stuff like an energy drink....
NIX,....around here anyways....my friend got it,came in a 2 bottle pack...he gave me one...they run like 15$ for the 2 pak....one gallon of DISTILLED water...mix in one bottle NIX and shake the snot out of it....(I took a little water out so I had shaking room)....then I used a spray bottle to apply it to racks and cages....**I actually used it on mice racks all over..there was some kind of wood mites, dust mites ,and ??grain or mill type mites..don't know...I just wanted them all gone....
it smells like shampoo......cause it is ....
so...2 gallons for $15 ....or 20$ plus a can ....
I'd go for NIX,.......!!!!

Since Provent a Mite is the reason that Black Knight is no longer available I boycott buying it - BK was by far the easiest safest method for keeping those buggers out of your collection - then PAM had to sue them.
You can go into Walmart or just about any pharmacy and pick up a can of lice or bedding spray that has the same ingredients as PAM for around $6. Spray down your QT area and treat your racks and tubs every cleaning.

Wal-Mart quit selling their brand!
Black Knight is the best way to go! It is around...I have a couple cases if you PM me....It goes for $25 per can but just plain works...nothing better or safer in my opinion. Provent a Mite (PAM) is the company that worked so hard to get Black Knight off the market...simply because it was not labled for use on snakes...so that their product PAM could steal all your money selling you lice spray that was now labled for snake cages,,,NOT ON YOUR SNAKES. If you want PAM go to walmart and pay $4 per can of lice bedding spray...same stuff. But it is not safe like they say.,..My 2 cents.

Tried Nix...killed the mites for a few weeks. They came back.
Used PAM...no more mites.
I'd never use anything but PAM again.
