The Penny Auction's Place with Reptiles

royerreptiles Dec 13, 2011 11:02 AM

In regards to recent events on Facebook as well as other forums, I'm curious to hear the thoughts here on Kingsnake's ball python forum regarding this topic.

Do you feel that the Penny Auction format has a place in our community? Is it a good way to bring new people into our world, or is it a black eye for us?

Can this be used by the animal rights people against our ability to continue keeping ball pythons? How so?

I'm personally not a fan of it, but I'm curious as to how everyone else feels.

Kinda torn...
I would have loved to have paid $6.00 for a female butter like one dude did, but on the other hand...market crasher...

It has absolutly no place in the world of reptiles. It will crash the reptile market as we know it...it hard enough to compete against other breeders and their prices and now we will have to hear from potential customers...
"I can go on Penny Auctions and get it the same snake for $6.00 and you want $200.00"
Great for flippers and jobbers...I am sure they support it.

Think about this

That $6.00 butter had over 500 bids on it and if each bid cost $1.00 that means the person running the site made over $500.00 bucks on it. Plus everywhere I read the people winning our friends of the sites owner and NOT people like you and me. I believe that's its a giant scam and will have a lot of people really pissed off at them.
