The Complete Rainbow Boa book

tracehardin Dec 25, 2011 12:45 PM

Has anyone else seen the recent numerous herp husbandry books with the title "the complete-". I know I've picked up the complete GTP, carpet python, ball python and the blood python is coming out soon too. Is anyone in the works of possibly writing one for rainbow boas? It seems these snakes are gaining in popularity more and more and may need a nice book to accompany their growing fame. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this I guess...

I am writing a “genetics for dumbies” as it pertains to snakes with specific examples using rainbows. I am writing everything from simple Mendelian genetics for beginners to complex biochem that outlined the specific mechanism of how the DNA translates into a specific phenotype. However this is only a few chapters that I would hope someone would include in a book or that type.

It's funny you bring this up, as I actually have one in the works right now. Been working on it for a while now.

If anyone has anything they might like to suggest that I include in my book, shoot me an email.

John... Shoot me an email about your genetics chapter.

It seems to me that the COMPLETE Rainbow Boa book should be about all five species.

would you include the jamaican boa and other epicrates? it wouldnt be jsut the rainbow boas then.

Jeff Clark Dec 29, 2011 08:54 AM

For it to be a "complete" Epicrates book you would need to travel to a couple dozen islands. Finding the snakes on those Islands today is really tough if not impossible. Just ask Tom Crutchfield who BTW has actually done the field work over many years. For it to be the "complete" Rainbow Boa book you would only need to travel to and do field work in maybe 25 locations around South America. Your choice, one or two years of field work in South America to be qualified to write the complete Rainbow Boa book versus 5 years or more to write the complete Epicrates book. That time would be in addition to many years experience keeping all of the species and subspecies in captivity. Okay I will quit being a male biatch for minute and say that several of the people who post on this forum are IMO totally qualified to write the complete Brazilian Rainbow Boas in captivity book.
