power feeding facts?

geckoejon Dec 26, 2011 04:16 PM

hello, i have read some people saying, in their opinions, that power feeding is bad for bp's. i referring to a heavy feeding schedule and NOT forcing any prey into the bp's mouth.

i am looking for FACTS as to why feeding more often or multiple prey is bad. facts, as in your personal experience, and not he said she said....

my thought process/opinion on this is that....

in the wild i just can't imagine a bp thinking "i had better not eat this second rodent" or "gonna have to pass on this one because i only ate a couple days ago."

if that makes any sense...

facts??? opinions??? anyone documented long term health effects?

jonathan

p.s. hope you all have had a great Christmas and have a happy and safe new year as well!

My personal experience shows they eat more consistently in captivity by feeding one small rat per week...and sometimes even skipping a week every 6-8 weeks.

dale, thanks for the feedback. i am going with a single appropriately sized rat every 5-6 days. they have been feeding nicely so far and are looking very healthy.

the thought of power feeding is tempting, but i'm not up to trying to have mine be the guinea pigs. lol that's why i was looking for other people's experience.

seems like would've gotten a lot more info/facts since i have seen/heard sooooo many people bashing it. hmm...

just curious as to how long your females usually take to mature?

I've had several females breed and lay viable eggs at 2 years old, but most go at 3.
