Hi Chris,
As much as I would LOVE to take credit for being a great alligator breeder, it has little to do with me. When you have mature gators that are content in their environment they themselves will decide to breed. And they don't have to have expansive ponds, either. I have had them breed in a tiny temporary plastic tub 6 feet by 4 feet and 14 inches deep while we were waiting on some equipment to clear some land for a new pond at a location in So. Louisianna. These were big fat born and raised captives too. The male was about 10 feet and maybe 450 to 500 pounds and the female was about 6 1/2 feet and maybe 125 pounds, if I remember correctly. Nobody, including myself was expecting them to breed while in that tiny plastic tub. The male had to bend double just to get in it and could barely submerge. I swear, he must have had Elvis hips to perform the deed in that tub, lol.
But all silliness aside, they will breed if mature and happy. I have yet to have any breed in any low humidity states, so maybe high humidity plays a role too.
>>Hi Brian,

>> I was wondering if you could help give some info on breeding Amer. Alligators and their captive care. For all of the brainiacs in here that have a problem with asking questions and assume that we dont read the posts before hand, I did read the posts and I did read the crocodialian FAQ. But just as anyone that has half a brain would do, I like to find information from different sources that know more than myself. (It's called learning.
). Also if their are any other knowledgeable people in here that would like to help in answering these questions then please, be my guest. Thanks in advance.
