pinkies yes, fuzzies no!

varanid Jan 02, 2012 02:18 PM

OK. my baby hondos will eat about a gazillion pinkies but won't touch a fuzzy. I've split the heads and didn't seem to work? I've never run into this before--I mean I've had snakes not like f/t, I've had snakes not want to go from mice to rats...but I've never had one refuse to move on from pinkies. I'm puzzled. Should I just frigging shave the fuzzie mice or something?

We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.

That's pretty common, Paul. I see it a lot. Sometimes trimming the whiskers off of the fuzzies helps, but don't be surprised if you have to just load them up on pinks for a few more months.

I'll try the whiskers thing first, but if that doesn't work no big deal. I've got about 1300 pinkies left after my order...I just don't like keeping animals on pinkies too long.

Try giving them a single pink along with a fuzzy. Just a thought. Little buggers can be finicky sometimes.

Hondurans tend to be rather easy to switch from pinks to fuzzies or from mice to young rats compared to most other species of milksnakes. If you only offer it fuzzy mice as a choice it should start taking them in no more that two or three weeks. If you let them get hungry they will switch.

And as shown they switch to fingers easily too!
