Tasty, Tasty Ratcakes!

Got Garnet to take a small rat tonight without even a moment of hesitation! Awesome! And just in time, because thanks to my trash compactor JCP (who also took a rat for the first time tonight) I only have one mousicle left! I've been feeding her smaller meals, and only recently upped her food size. She's about a year and a half old, maybe a few months more. What do you guys have your juvies on? I don't have a gram scale at home and somehow I think my coworkers might object if I weigh her at work But I'll try to get a decent length estimate once she digests a bit.

Cynthia,

Gram scales are pretty cheap; I got mine from Wal-Mart for about $15. I feel like all of my Rainbows are different and have different eating habits. At that age my more picky eaters are on small rats but more “trash compactors” are already pushing to mid/large rats by 2 yrs old. I try not to over feed anyone and a general rule I like to follow is that I don’t feed my Rainbows a rat with a circumference bigger than the circumference of the thickest part of the snake.

Hope that answers your question and I look forward to seeing more pix of Garnet. In the mean time here is a cute little hypo female I picked up from Bryan. I have yet to name this little girl. I would love some suggestions…

Thanks for the tips

What a pretty hypo - looks like a "Zulu" to me for some reason!

I think you are probable on par with the small rats. FYI, rainbowsbydesign is finally back on line and I will be adding Zulu in the next day or two

Pancake? Lol where did that come from?

I picked up a gram scale last night, so I'll get a weight on her this weekend. Little fatling acted like she was ready for seconds after she slurped down that rat! She eats almost as fast as my ribbon snakes do!

I've got a few big females that are monsters!!! A few of my girls are every bit of 5 to 5 1/2 feet long and as big around as my arm.
