Hello,
I was looking through a book titled "Living Snakes of the World in Color" by J. Mehrtens that shows a picture of a S.m. streckeri or western pygmy rattlesnake. The picture shows an amazing specimen that looks to have a pink base color with dark spots. I got on the net to look at some more pictures of the Western Pygmy and they seemed to be more grey in base color and not as brilliant. I was wondering if young Western Pygmys were pink then changed color with age or if this was a different color phase of the Western Pygmy. The book picture looked similar to pictures I saw of red Carolina pygmys on the net but they are a different sub species. Or could it be possible the book has misidentified the snake. Anyway, I was just wondering thanks in advance for your replies.
Thanks Again
