AN UPDATE on the lost Mex Black King and mice.....

MissHisssss Oct 03, 2003 12:51 AM

Luckily my little dog alerted me to two inches of black tail sticking out from under the sofa. I was sooooo happy he was found. Now that he's had a taste of freedom though, he's been trying to escape, which he had never done before. I check him all the time.

I'd lost a corn snake hatchling about 3 years ago, and never found it. I really feel for everyone that has posted about having a lost snake and never found them. I wish you luck.

Oh yeah... last night I also found one of the mice that got loose. It was the pregnant one. She had her babies this morning but I don't know if she ate any poison and will end up dying... nor do I know if the babies would have enough poison in them to do a snake harm to feed them off. Any thoughts on this?

We keep poison in our rodent shed. Our policy is simple: if a rodent hits th floor and leaves our site for even a FRACTION of a second, we kill it and dispose of it. We don't risk feeding it to our snakes (or it's young). It is the safest policy, and we stick by it. I'm not saying I'd kill one we consider a pet (...and we do havea couple), but it wouldn't ever be used for breeding again (if it was in the first place).

Did you mention that you had a pet cat?? Personally, I would not use poison in my house AT ALL if I had a pet cat. Honestly, I would not use poison in my house period, but esp if I had a pet cat. Chances are that the dying, thisty, disoriented, poisoned, easy to catch rodents will become cat toys one day.

my 2 cents
