locality Mosaic floridana

DMong Jan 12, 2012 12:37 AM

I was just recently doing some internet surfing, and stumbled upon this Clewiston, Florida locale "Mosaic" king captured on 2/18/11. Pretty interesting find along with all the other cool stuff they found on their lengthy herping trip in Florida. It certainly makes sense that this phenotype would be found there too, because the Mosaics in todays hobby were products of gravid female clutches collected from wild-caught animals found just south of Lake Okeechobee in 1997, and the first Mosaic morphs were produced from these animals in 2003 by Bill Brant(of Gourmet Rodent)and is basically were this animal just so happens to be from too........very interesting indeed!..

That is really cool, but being herpers, didn't they get any better shots than that? lol Man that is a sin if they didn't.

LOL!!, I know, I was thinking the very same thing myself.....a very crappy photo for sure man.

I don't even know if the guy knew how special it was either, other than it being a "king". The caption merely said ......"We made it to another area and we stopped and walked a bit, flipped some carpet, and found a small king. At this point it was 12:40 and 75 out"

I see more of the dude's arm and big hairy knuckles in the photo than I do the cool snake subject..LOL!

hahaha Yeah, sounds like they didn't know what they were looking at. Anyway, that's really cool they can be found in the wild.

Yeah, it sure was cool. I agree and also seriously doubt the guy was aware of it being an aberrant form of king.

I think that was found by Melissa Coakley and Bill Murray. Bill should know enough to know that was an unusual king from down there. He's found plenty of others.

I saw that picture a while back and thought it looked like a mosaic, but it's such a bad picture I'm still not 100% sure!

Other than that, I have never heard of a homozygous mosaic coming out of the canefields. Just the Sean Belanger/Carl May kings, and the Gourmet Rodent kings.

Yeah, There was a guy named Bill in the herping post I remember. I thought he seemed like a pretty experienced herper from all the stuff they captured in different trips, etc..

Yep, very familiar with those guys and some of their cool animals also...
