lay date or hatch date?

Hello,

I had a surprise clutch of eggs in mid november this year. The female has not bred since spring/summer 2010 and did not lay eggs that year. I was shocked to find the eggs one day when cleaning and set them up in my incubator. Well, the babies have started to hatch and I'm unsure if they would be 2011 or 2012 babies? Do I identify them by the date laid or date hatched?

I would call them early 2012 babies.
