Many have NOT sent their letters to President Obama and Congress Opposing the PYTHON BAN! If you care anything about this industry and hobby you will take action NOW! It is rumored thatInterior Secretary Salazar will be grandstanding down in the Everglades next week in order to try and gain momentum for his beleaguered Constrictor Rule. HSUS and Defenders of Wildlife have spentcountless thousands of dollars to lobby on behalf of the rule. USARK does not have the money to buy the kind of influence that these powerful special interests do. What we do have is Science, TheTruth, and thousands of passionate members. A recent poll by the Palm Beach Post indicated that 86% of respondents were against the Python Ban. We need an unprecedented groundswell of grass rootsletter writing. Obama needs to understand that there are millions of us representing a $1.4 billion industry with more than $103 million at stake with the Constrictor Rule. SEND YOUR LETTERSNOW!!!

US Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) has a proposed rule being considered by the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB). This is the final stage of the rule makingprocess. This rule, if enacted, would ban the import and interstate transport of nine constricting snakes; Burmese python, Northern & Southern African pythons, Reticulated python, all fourAnacondas, and Boa constrictor. This rule has been called the "Constrictor Rule". All of these constrictors would be added to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act. If this were to happen morethan 1 million American citizens could be subject to felony prosecution under the Lacey Act. It is the job of OMB to weigh the purported benefits of the rule against the economic impacts. It is alsotheir duty to assure the rule has been given due process under the Administrative Procedures Act, Information Quality Act and all pertinent Executive Orders. USARK has created a clear public recordthat FWS has failed at every level to make their case for this rule. According to emails obtained by USARK it appears that staff at FWS colluded with staff at the US Geological Survey (USGS) tomanufacture "science" to support this rule making after the decision had already been made to pursue a Lacey Act listing. Further, FWS grossly underestimated the economic impact. USGS has justifiedtheir flawed "science" by saying they were not required to adhere to information quality standards for science used to support the rule because the rule did not meet the standard for a major rulemaking ($100 million). An economic assessment of the Modern Reptile Industry commissioned by USARK, and done by Georgetown Economic Services, has since debunked USGS claims by asserting that the rulecould have impact in excess of $103 million. USARK believes the actions of FWS and USGS in regards to the Constrictor Rule are arbitrary, capricious and potentially unlawful.

Please send the letter below to President Obama and your Senators and Congressmen to let them know you are aware of the actions of FWS and the negative impact on you, your family andbusiness. Just follow the simple instructions.

Do it now and share with all your friends, family, social networks, forums and email lists! This is your chance to make a difference and help USARK set a positive precedent for ourindustry.

Everyone was so willing to throw Florida under the bus and in the end, now you know why politicos from other states were visiting Tallahassee and gathering info over the last couple years. The lack of unity as Floridians fought with Tallahassee first on ROC and then on the outright ban of ROC herps gave politicians looking for an easy "WIN" or "SCORE" insight into how easy it is to divide and alienate herpers.

Now that they are coming after your precious innocuous BP's and not the so called "monster" retics, burms, scrubbies, etc... your fear is reaching a fever pitch. TOO LATE!!!

Truth is, the herp world is getting what it deserves after a decade and a half of scams, fraud, and morph driven pyramid bubble "markets"! Some of the best and brightests minds in herpetoculture sold out for a gimmick and people with limited herp knowledge but more than enough levered capital became instant experts working with species that only required basic understanding of herp husbandry.....LOL!!!!

Good luck getting the FED GOV to pay attention. These are the same people that voted for TARP despite an average 300 to 1 ratio of people opposed to bailing out the banks. That was a 700 billion dollar snub to the American voters, heck the 1 billion number USARK touts is an accounting rounding error on the FED GOV annual budget as well as an insignificant drop of water in the ocean that makes up the U.S. Gross Domestic Product(GDP). That arguement alone reveals the amateurish attempt of USARK to be effective at the federal level.

Like it or not Florida was the center of the herp world and when the politicians had their victory here eveyone else lost the battle as well, they just didn't know it yet!

Kev,

I'd love to meet you in person someday, you my friend are real, down to earth and just tell it like it is. What you have said above is right on! We can legally keep and breed ROC's here in FL but it requires 2 permits to do so. FWC has straight up told us that they have to keep the policitians happy and many of these crazy and meaningless permits are going to do next to nothing to help the situation, but the general public feels better about it.

LoL I love the way you put this:

"Now that they are coming after your precious innocuous BP's and not the so called "monster" retics, burms, scrubbies, etc... your fear is reaching a fever pitch. TOO LATE!!!"

Still hitting the nail on the head. I've heard it over and over..."they won't come after the harmless small reptiles"

Sad that even with the people involved in fighting these political events no one can seem to pull the exotic animal nation together. Everyone wants to say it won't or can't happen and do nothing about it.

Love this:

"Truth is, the herp world is getting what it deserves after a decade and a half of scams, fraud, and morph driven pyramid bubble "markets"! Some of the best and brightests minds in herpetoculture sold out for a gimmick and people with limited herp knowledge but more than enough levered capital became instant experts working with species that only required basic understanding of herp husbandry....."

Many still don't understand what you said below:

"Like it or not Florida was the center of the herp world and when the politicians had their victory here eveyone else lost the battle as well, they just didn't know it yet!"

Miami Int. Airport is the largest port for exotic animal imports and exports, FL is a HUGE part of this industry.

If your smart you'll get the animals you want to work with now so that when (oh yes it will eventually happen) the powers that be put laws into place you'll have the animals you want. When this happens you will see who was in this for money....

"Take the passion that drove the ball market to the moon and put it towards this fight!!!!"

This is exactly it. If the Ball python people motivate, I think it will push us into the next level.

Please help!

Thanks, everyone. Let's do this!
