From opposite ends of the Kankakee Prairie, two Illinois clutchmates (female at lower left and male at right) and one Indiana male (Newton Co) at top center. All are 2011s between four and five months old.

Are these your new babies? Very nice! I like the very black neck pattern changing to the rich brown in the middle.

Yes Bob, like your clutch, these 2011s have been my winter companions while everyone else is down under. The IL bulls are just beginning to show some color. We'll see how those colors develop but I like what I'm seeing on the female. The male has an interesting pattern but is nowhere near as colorful. Big personality difference too, she is nearly dirt tame and he is a little spitfire.

When do you plan to bring your other pits out of brumation? I am planning on March 20, the Vernal Equinox. I am hoping by then the ambient temps at night will be springlike, not like last spring:

April 6. 2011...ugh!!!

If February is warmer this year I may bring them out sooner. I can always provide a hot spot hide, but it is nice to have the house temps warmer at night in general.

Bonafide spring here happens during the latter half of February so I like to wake everyone up around mid Feb. The trick and challenge here is finding a dark place to keep them cooler than the low 70s after October, hence my move to the wine coolers this winter. Everyone else has been down under since about halloween.

From President's Day weekend (mid February) a couple of years ago...

Having lived here for some four years now, I don't think I could ever live in a place with real winters anymore...

Very cool! I have yet to get a northern bull, and seeing this makes me rethink my plans!

Thanks Billy! The trick is finding one with the colors and pattern that appeals most to you. That's why I started three of them...
