My brumation attempts seem to be over due to warm weather... I fed all of my kings last week. They all ate just fine. With the exception of a couple cold fronts left in winter, looks like the so called winter is done here in Houston. Iif has been in the 70s for two weeks. I ceased feeding for almost two months and they were exposed to some cooler temps. Is it possible to breed them sooner than the typical breeding season? They sure don't have any issues feeding right now and are Proven breeders.

Well, I'm in central Florida and I just put my snakes to cool yesterday! We had a few cold snaps, but last year the steady cold didn't begin untill mid January. February seems to be the coldest month for us. They will cool from now till early March.

This is my first winter here... I will be doing the same ,jan etc nextt year for sure. They are all of healthy weight, I just fed them because I was getting nervous. There is likely some cold to come in Feb of course. I am stuck on whether to cool them back down and cease feeding again or just keep them warm through Feb. They are all bouncing all over there cages right now tomorrow is high 76!

The only way to cool them in Texas is artificially.....regardless of outside temps my kings are at 50F until mid February or early March....

Hey John, you don't think temps would drop enough from now thru Febuary to cool some of the more tropical species, like the Floridanas? Obviously some of the more montaine species need that extra cold.

Of course tropical species will brumate from now until March and produce viable sperm and fertile eggs......I just mainly have montanes so I brumate them all the same........this year I actually started cooling them off two weeks earlier and will keep them in for two weeks longer.....

Regardless of what anyone else may say I see no I'll effects from doing it this way.........none at all.......plus, I really enjoy the 4 month break and the time to concentrate on younger snakes.........

I know....it's all about me but it works....lol

Yeah, if I could do it, I would do similarly. I too want to concentrate on the younger ones, and get them up to parr.
