Is that the side of the tank? Has he always done that? Is that the warm or cool end of the cage?

Just food for thought, how are the temps in the cage? If he does that on the cool end, the temps in his tank may be too warm.

On the other hand, you may just have a "unique" snake!! LOL

The temperature is around 77 F and thats the warm side of the tank.
I have even noticed my snake sleeping up in a branch lol.
From what i have seen cal kings dont usually do that.
