GIGANTIC crocodile..,,WHOA!!!

DMong Jan 18, 2012 04:53 PM

It weighs one ton and is believed responsible for eating at least one fisherman, but this monster crocodile has finally been caught by 100 very cautious men.
Measuring 21ft from snout to tail, the massive creature is the largest crocodile captured alive in recent years.
The beast was caught, after a three-week hunt, in a creek in the Philippines by villagers who had lived in fear of it for more than 20 years.
Its nearest rival in the monster stakes is Cassius, an Australian salt-water crocodile which measures a 'mere' 18ft - and which is still on the loose in the Northern Territory.

The Philippine crocodile's domain was a river system in Agusan, a poverty-stricken region 500 miles south east of Manila, but while it was a constant threat to villagers no one was brave enough to try to capture it.

However, when a village fisherman went missing and the crocodile became the chief suspect, plans were hatched to catch it.
It was placed under observation and when it was witnessed by several villagers killing a water buffalo they knew their suspicions were right.

'We were very nervous about tackling this beast but it was our duty to deal with it because it was a threat to many villagers and their farm animals,' said the local mayor, Mr Edwin Elorde.
'When I finally saw it after its capture I couldn't believe my eyes.
'It was big enough to swallow three men all at once.'
The operation to capture the croc - which has yet to be named - was set in place after it was seen in a creek.
Villagers set four net traps, which the crocodile destroyed with a mighty snap of its jaws.
So the second time around the villagers used traps made of steel cables and this time the animal failed to get away.
At least 100 men were required to pull the huge reptile on to the banks of the creek where, after a great deal of difficulty, it was bound up and then lifted by crane on to the back of a truck.
They weren't going to let the victory pass without having their photo taken, so many of the villagers posed beside their scaly captive before it was driven off to a confined area.
Despite the suspected death of the fisherman, the crocodile is destined for fame.
It is expected to be the star attraction at a new eco-tourism park that is being set up in Agusan.
'It will be the biggest star of the park,' said Mr Elorde.
'The villagers, of course, are very happy that they have been able to turn this dangerous crocodile from a threat into an asset.
But the 37,000 people who live in the region have been told not to rest on their laurels.
Many other large crocodiles remain in the rivers and

Yeah, I hope they have a big enough PROPER facility for him too. That thing is so big and old he has to be very used to doing whatever he damn-well wanted and set in his ways..LOL!

I'm sure he would be really stressed and have huge amounts of lactic acid built up as well.....

That thing is so huge it's ridiculous!

"Is this Lolong?"

It looks pretty darn "Lolong" to me!..

I didn't see a bigger croc on the home page?....where is it?

I did see your "snake bite" article though......nice!

Please show me a correctly-scaled photo of a larger crocodile than the one I posted. Asian royalty and others have shot huge one's back in the day that might have been just a couple feet longer(maybe 22-23 feet or so), but I would definitely like to see one larger than this thing..

it would be bad ass if our crocs got that big here. I fish a lot out of a canoe in the glades and have seem some monsters, nothing even close to that though. For something that big you have to go to Jungle Island in south beach.

Yeah, that would be the stuff nightmares are made of man!...YIKES!!.......no casual dips in the ponds or beach for Dougie!

I swam PLENTY of huge chunks of bloody shark bait out on the beach, and even had a big shark on once before I could even swim back to my big ocean fishing rod stuck in a PVC pipe in the sand as my buddy was screaming my name holding my fishing rod..."HURRY UP!!...YOU GOT ONE ON MAN!!!!!" and the line is sizzling off right next to me as I am paddling back the opposite way to grab the pole!. I actually did manage to get to shore and land it with a good bit of luck..LOL!

I kid you not!

Now at night in pitch black darkness, swimming out the bloody shark bait got a bit too freakin scary though, and I began to only wade out up to my chest and try to toss it as far as it would go..LOL!. I have pulled many sharks onto the beach from the waters edge by their tails in the past and is really no big deal. When I went fishing on good ol' Ft.Lauderdale beach right on the main strip were everyone usually swims during the day, I would either catch sharks or big barracuda at least a good 75% of the times I went, and we used to go all the time. People walking down the beach would FLIP-OUT seeing for themselves that we were catching sharks there right off shore..LOL!

Anyway, I miss catching those with my buddy down there..

Doug, my mother used to have a place on Singer Island, in west palm. Her condo was on the seventh floor and looked over the water. We could see sharks swimming past people all day. Rarely did I look out onto the water from her condo and not see a shark within minutes. I swam there daily, but did come out of the water when folks would tell me about the big shark right next to me!! Yikes!! LOL. Most were nurse sharks, but once in a while a big ol bull shark would swim by. I am not a fan of swimming with those. Used to catch tons of pompano and some snook too. I wish she still had that place!!! ( Must have seen a thousand turtles make their way to the water after hatching too, and mothers laying.)

"but did come out of the water when folks would tell me about the big shark right next to me!! Yikes!!"

HAHAHA!!!,.......That is funny as all HECK!!!. I was crackin the hell up over that. Yeah, I can relate to every single word man. Sharks are usually everywhere along the coast, it is just that most aren't aware that they are that close to them as they are floundering around enjoying themselves..LOL! I guarantee since you had that awesome arial view from the condo, you saw tons of them, also including huge dark schools of mullet and pilchards that other fish were smashing too, including snook, Tarpon, barracuda, Jack Crevalle, and a mix of sharks like spinners, black tips, gray reef sharks, and as you said, the very scary bullshark!.

~Doug

a nice 'cuda I caught on the Ft.Laud. strip back in the early 90's.....

a sailfish in my boat off Pompano.......

Tarpon from Hollywood, Florida in the intracoastal....

MONSTER snook also in Hollywood. This thing was a whopping 44-3/4 inches and 32 lbs.!!

another killer snook at 42 inches!

Shark from the Lauderdale strip, also circa mid-90's.....

another nice snook at 42 inches! back in the day....

and a sweet phenotype splendida to help keep things in proper theme....LOL!

I have a bunch of big framed prints of LOTS of nice stuff I have caught in the past, and about a 2 inch stack of photos of a bunch more. Fishing is definitely right up there with snakes..

another tarpon pic I located on the computer.......

a tasty 14 lb. Black Drum taken near St.Rd. 84 between Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood well inland.

another tarpon from way back......

Wow!! You have caught some nice fish there Douglas!! I wish I was more computer savy, I would scan (I am assuming that is what you did here) some photos and put them up as well. What peir was that big snook from? My brother caught a monster off a peir five years ago or so in Ft. Lauderdale. He too was surprised it did not bust him off through abrasion. Wonder how many of those snook are swimming around with rusty hooks in their mouths! LOL. I caught a 140 pound Tarpon off of a peir in South Carolina many years ago. We had to estimate the weight because I did not want to gaff him and haul him up. There had been several caught and weighed that went 110 or so and mine was much larger. I miss fishing a lot and need to get back into the game. Hunting took over my outdoor time but I am starting to get the itch to fish!!! Your pics are killing me!! thanks a lot Doug!

DMong Jan 19, 2012 07:05 PM

LOL!!, thanks Joe, I just KNEW that you had fish blood coursing through your veins too..LOL!

The huge snook were caught on a little narrow park boardwalk in Hollwood right ON the intracoastal waterway just inland of the beach.

Yeah, that huge tarpon had to have been adrenaline pumping for sure dude!. I have also had lots of fish that were so big it seemed like the line was attached to a truck bumber going down the highway, and not a thing could be done to turn or even slow them any. It is exciting as all hell is what it is. I know you know exactly what I mean too.

Yes, I scanned those photos many years ago. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of the program you are using.

Also, whenever you do not have a weight scale, and want to know the weight of a big game fish such as a tarpon, there is a very tried and true weight calculation formula that I have memorized by heart from the "Florida Sportsman" magazine that is VERY accurate. It goes as follows....

length x girth(squared), then divided by 800 equals the approx. weight of the fish, give or take a couple pounds on a huge fish.

cheers, ~Doug
