Hey Bob,

As you and I both prefer spacious housing for our snakes, what innovations have you come up with to house your new bulls (which are outrageously attractive by the way)? Like you, I have added several new bulls to my collection within the past six months and all are growing fast (like Ahnuld did). Ahnuld is currently in a 75 gallon aquarium (48" x 18" x 21" as pictured below...

I'm going to keep two of my three Kankakee bulls long term and face the prospects of those two needing the same space within two - three years. They are quickly out growing the small tanks that they are in now. Never have liked those rack and tub systems as I like to see and interact with my snakes multiple times per day when they're all up.

Do you use stackable front loaders? The only problem that I see with them is adequate ventilation.

Thanks,

Jim

One of my 3 ft tanks; this is currently housing the five baby bulls. The 4 ft tank on the right houses Gonzo the Pacific who is as big as Ahnuld. I have several 4ft and 3ft long tanks of 15 and 18 inch widths, as well as a bunch of 20 and 10 gallon tanks. The adult bulls and gophers are in the biggest tanks, except for one 4ft long which houses the adult pyro trio and one 3 ft for the younger pyro trio. The other little tanks house the rest of the pyros. I currently have the new baby sunglow in a ten gallon, but she will soon go in something bigger. This season I am housing my adult bulls separate as I don't want more babies; am out of cages and space for any more! I need to find homes for the three extra male babies so Rozy and Moz can just be in the one tank. Everybody is not getting any smaller, you know! LOL!

The larger tanks that are not on shelves also have anti-cat wire screen tops over the regular tops, so bowling ball cats can't fall through, and I can set stuff on top of them as well.

I put deep aspen and bury Glad tubs in the bedding with boxes over that, to give them as interesting an environment as I can manage in a cage. The bulls get paper towels in their Glad tubs because they like to poop in them. The pyros are very tidy, and will go to the far corner of their tanks as far from the nest as possible to poop. So they get moss. The deep aspen is fun for burrowing. Also the deep aspen makes it easier to provide a hot spot even in the dead of winter for those individuals who are not in brumation. A Glad tub buried over the UTH and with a box over that keeps them warm even when the ambient room temps drop into the mid forties at night (think little cabin in the woods with wood stove sole source of heat)

I also have a couple of 4ft x 2ft x 2ft screen cages which are for summer use. I put the pits out in these on the front porch during the day so they can enjoy some actual sun.

What someone else had to say about the front loading Boaphile cages. He thought ventilation was fine, but had this funny comment:
the only possible problem i can think of is very aggresive pits might come lunging out the front and onto the floor.
LMAO!!!

Ahnuld is just spectacular! You ever need to rehome him, I'd take him in a heartbeat. Not that I'd want you to ever have to part with such a splendid fellow!

Thanks Bob!

Found this bullsnake care sheet the other day among others...

"The Bull Snake grows to an average length of 6 feet but has been known to exceed this by 2 - 3 feet making it one of the largest North American snakes."

"An enclosure measuring 48”x24”x24” is suitable for housing a Bull Snake. A large wooden vivarium with sliding glass doors is suitable for this species. You should be able to acquire a vivarium in the size previously stated from most shops that deal in reptiles. If you have a particularly large Bull Snake (8-9ft) you may need to have one custom made, or construct your own if you have the knowhow." Now that's a funny thought!

A fact of which I am well aware but can you imagine an eight or nine foot Ahnuld? Such an animal would weigh about 30 lbs.

This cage is 2 levels. It is 5' long 30" high and 2' deep. This is off Craig's list, but looks pretty simple to make. You could make it longer, too.
A nine ft Ahnuld would be a sight to behold! Next the government would want to ban pits!
