parazap/parsite question

mandora Oct 03, 2003 08:48 AM

Hello,
I got a beardie about 2 weeks ago from a pet store, and hes doing really well, growing, eating and being cute! Im just concerned about possible parasites, since I don't really know where he came from origianlly. What signs should I be looking for, and is there a product out there (iearazap) that I can get to treat him as a precaution, like you can with dogs and cats? I don't want to hurt him if he doesn't have anything. I'll bring him to the vet if I have to, but the only vet in town that'll take herps will cost at least $200 for a check up and fecal exam, and they won't do a fecal with out a full physical, so I'd really like this to be a last resort.
thanks for any advice!
Manda

Sounds like they don't want to deal with exotics to me. Are you positive it will cost at least $200.00? May want to double check.

If that's the case they ought to just not look at them instead of ripping off the uninformed.

yeah, it will be atleast that. $130 for bringing him in, can't remember exactly but something like $50 for a fecal, plus the cost of any meds that they dispense..blah blah blah. For my parrots, its over $200 just to do a checkup. And these guys are the only vets in town that will even take exotics, so if you really have a problem, you have to deal with them, cause you have no other choice. they can charge whatever they want and people have to pay it. Its sick really. But, you see why I would like to avoid the vet if its at all possible!

My vet does not ask to see the animal for a fecal unless they are ill. I drop off the sample, pay him $10 for the test and he calls me. If anything comes up positive it is another $20 for him to weigh the beardie so dosing is correct and take a quick look to make sure they are not sick or dehydrated.
We do have two vets in town that charge those horrific kind of fees. We just wont take our pets there. They do not have any better record or customer care satisfation rating, so the only difference is the fancy waiting rooms. I would rather pay less for good vet care and forget the decorated waiting rooms.

That is a lot, my vet just charges me $15 dollars for the fecal and I don't have to bring them in. I've never had any of my reptiles need treatment for parasites, but he did amputate a broken toe of my water dragon and only charged me $12 for a "nail clipping".

Must be nice to have such reasonable vets!! Here, everyone is out to gouge for as much money as they can get!! Once, one of my dogs got sick, and I called my vet at home, I had to pay a $100 consultation fee for him to say 'if she starts vomiting, call me back.' when she did vomit, I called him back and he said 'don't worry about it, just bring her in in the morning' and I had to pay him another $100 fee just for that!!! I think Im gonna start taking my animals across the river to Michigan. They seem a lot more concerned about the animals wellfare, and much less concerned about money!!

My puppy ate two boxes of rat poison a few weeks ago, and spent the whole day at the vet getting treated, and the total was only $250 which I thought was pretty reasonable.

First, Parazap is an excellent preventative that is made from all-natural ingredients; it does NO harm. Directions are on the jar & it can be used for any type of animal.

Second, some signs of parasites to look for are runny, foul-smelling stools, loss of appetite, listlessness, & decreased weight.
