more on the ban

Jbbean1369 Jan 22, 2012 02:33 PM

I have read most of the registry that was posted on the new snake ban, one thing caught my eye, a lot of people were commenting about how cats and dogs cause more harm over even a more widespread area, I agree, but would never agree to put them on the list, but anyway, they responded by saying since cats and dogs were domesticated animals they couldn't be put on the list, why can't we include snakes as domesticated animals? Most snakes owned by breeders and enthusiasts alike were born in captivity, maybe if we can include them as domestic animals it could prevent them from putting them on the ban list as well?? cats and dogs were not always domestic animals, they lived in the wild same as everthing else and in some places still do, its not unreasonable to think that snakes should be considered domesticated pets, any thoughts????

You over looked the "Exotic" factor

True, but cats and dogs are technically exotic as well because they were not originally from here, but since they are domesticated they are safe, yes snakes are exotic but they should be considered domesticated pets, cats and dogs were brought over from foreign countries, and are still considered domestic, it seems if its considered a "normal" pet its ok but screw those that like reptiles, they're "exotic", but wat should it matter to them right if its hurting the environment it shouldn't matter to them wat kind of pet it is, if their real goal is helping the environment then they shouldn't be just fighting to ban the pets most people don't like, they seem to be only fighting battles they think they can win, if they truely want to help the environment they should be going after the major risks to the environment, regardless of the type, they go after snakes cus there are so few of us that like them, and a lot of people don't like them or are scared of them, and then they hope to get it all passed by splitting up the reptile people thinking we won't care as long as our snake is safe for now, I may not keep burms or AR or condas, but I'm pissed they took responsible peoples rights to enjoy it, ok they can keep them, but wat if they move? They can't take pets they've had for 20 years with them, and have to find someone in that area to keep them and hope for the best, they can't even enjoy breeding the morphs anymore unless someone in their own state has the one they want, sorry about the rant, but that's my opinion.

While they are considered exotic and not domesticated, I did think it was interesting that the USDA lists reptiles and amphibians in their national agricultural library as companion animals.
