Brumation and Breeding

pyromaniac Jan 23, 2012 10:02 AM

Please excuse a rather dumb question:
Is it possible for a pair of proven bulls to mate while in brumation? I ask because I was reading about redtail boas breeding during the cool season (I know, totally different species! LOL!)
Anyway, I have my pair of adult bulls together in brumation, but plan to put them in separate cages when I bring them out this spring, so as to prevent more babies ( running out of space). They didn't mate during brumation last year, instead waiting until they were warmed up.

I know it's been seen to happen in corns. Don't see why it can't happen with bulls. But very likely a slim chance.

I sure hope its a slim chance! I plan to bring my bulls out of brumation in a week or so, into separate cages. When I got into keeping snakes practicing birth control never occurred to me!

Zoey worked really hard last year to produce this clutch. If eggs happen I feel obligated to hatch them.
