i know this may be off topic a bit, but the USFWS took away the right (without a permit) to own a raptor/bird of prey. funny, cause the demise of at least the peregrine was caused by ddt....anyways, it was falconers that showed people how to breed, propogate, and reintroduce the peregrine. we(falconers got organized...NAFA....lawyers, etc.) i can tell you that the fed often has an agenda. alot of us falconers, thought hey my bird is gonna be off the list. nope. before long they had a rule that even "look alike" was regulated. some of us thought a hybrid would be off the list cause its not native? wrong. some of us thought captive bred would be safe? wrong. EVERYTHING regulated, permitted, form xxxx, and alot of stuff just no way, forget about it. It started slow, at first it was just hey no wild caught peregrines...okay, then something else, and before long everything. dont think for a minute your particular reptile is not on their list. They dont want any propogation of non-native wildlife/reptiles.....but to be fair, they dont want any propogation of native reptiles either!!!

Rather amazing how we become regulated like this and laws are passed...the people that enforce them don't even know what they are looking at!!

I had the Federal FDA(Food & Drug Administration) come into my place and ask me if I kept and sold Sea Turtles... They are now also in charge of ENFORCING TURTLE LAWS! Th Turtle people have no idea what is coming..... the officer told me that since Turtles can carry Salmonella that they will now regulate them and can FEDERALLY prosecute you..... THe entire turtle/tortoise world now has this to worry about.... they enforce it when they want it appears. They wanted a list of my turtle/tortoise suppliers and wanted to know if I kept a list of my customers with their addresses????

I would of played stupid . Its getting way out of hand .

but in order to operate a pet store, which I think that Kev is talking about, you have to have a pet store license. If you 'play dumb' you get your license revoked and you lose your ability to operate. So you keep on playing dumb, and see how far that gets you. This is not high school.....we are talking about peoples livlihoods.....not afterschool detention.

I can see what the OP is talking about...at first I did not open because I thought it was just spam, but so glad I did. Good to see from another niches point of view that all this has already happened to, and is beginning to happen to us.

All of you people who think this cannot happen to us, keep thinking that.....the OP message was loud and clear to me.

I am ready to go to war against this ban.......

....little bitty Zoos that serve iced cream...have some animals for people to feed and look at...NO more bear permits at the local one here....not sure why...PA Game Commission is changing the rules..and noone stopped them ......

wolves...not allowed in most states...all kinds of new laws on wolves........

turtles...they play the way they like...like was mentioned...sell 10,000 baby turtles at shows and noone stops you...have 1 at a pet shop and the wrong person walks in...Bam...busted...

natives...yea...they want us to never breed them and release anything....no matter how endangered...(it makes sence actually, gene pool and diseases)...

....BIG snakes is just a start....then HotZ.....then balls...boas...anything...If worded "constrictor" it includes almost all snakes...even corns.....PETA and other people like them want us to own NO animals...and the government is full of nutjobs ,,,lots of nutjobs...think of it...CITY people never saw an animals in person...yet they regulate them when elected...

Am I the only person who is tired of the public and regulators attacking reptiles (or turles, or any other pet) on the basis of Salmonella? The Federal government included.

Simple rule here: DON'T LICK YOUR PETS

And wash your freakin' hands. I swear I am going to make this a T-shirt. You don't handle an animal and then eat a hamburger. You don't clean the litter box, then hand toss a salad. You don't let your small child, who doesn't know these rules, work with any animal unattended.

Sorry, just a rant. I know it is silly to expect people to be pro-active. It is always animal's fault...
