Freezer burned fuzzies

DjFizz Jan 30, 2012 02:06 AM

What's up guys, I'm back again with another amateur question, lol.

I just bought a small batch of fuzzies (mice) for my Cal king, but I made the mistake of not inspecting them before leaving the store, only to find when I got home that the majority of them had white spots on them. I know from previous purchases that this is freezer burn, but I'm finding mixed opinions on whether or not they are safe for feeding.

So I just wanted to know if you guys have ever fed your snake freezer burned mice and if it's safe, or if I should toss the batch that I have.

Thanks in advance!

Although I perfer not to feed freezer burned mice, I have and will still feed them out if others are not available. I have not had any problems.

However, a friend on mine had a hognose snake regurgiate a frozen thawed weanling once. Upon inspection of his batch of mice, the mice were serverly freezer burned; almost to the point of dehydrated meat. I cut one open and it was like beef jerky.

Ditto to Mr MexMilk's reply... I've feed my milks rats with small spots of freezer burn on them (skin deep basically) with no ill effects... if, as he points out, the burn was so deep as to have dehydrated the muscle tissue I'd toss out the rodents.
