SATANIC LEAFTAIL EGGS And good and bad news!!!!!!

uroplatusguy Oct 03, 2003 11:19 AM

Hi guys. i have been so busy these last few weeks that i have not checked the fourum. i have some good news and some bad.the good news is thati right now have 2 (maybe more) satanic leaftail eggs. they appear fertile and are about a week old. i have been getting eggs from my one remaining females sikore pretty regularly too. the should be fertile but i will know more later on. the bad news now. i have had 6 female mossy leaftails die on me for no apperant reason. here is how it would go femmales would do really good and then develop a type of puss like skin reaction. i use no disinfecatnts and clean their perches alot. it is setup like a naturalistic setup. there is adequite ventilation in the tank and the temp and humidity fluctuate alot. not major or drastic changes just a few degrees here and there and the humidity might go as low as 70% but thats all. 2 weeks after the puss apears the lose their tails and within 3-5 days the die. i have been able to keep them going a bit longer if i clean out the pus with some iodine. no books mention this and the vet in my area has no clue on what is. it has happend in two seperat female cages but the males cage is unafected as well as the one male that was with my female sikore sikores. if anybody has any ideas it would be glad to hear them. i have a few other cages open and i am planning on replacing them in the middle of october. also anybody have any ideas on hatching the eggs? they seem to be doing o.k. in the tank with the parents. they are protected and nothing is bothering them. thak you for your time.

Wow, congrats on the satanic eggs. Good luck with them and the hatchlings.

As for the sikorae, sorry to hear that. Has your vet done any bacterial stains or culture growths on the puss? Sounds like a bacterial infection to me. Are they developing blisters that the puss is leaking out of or are there open wounds? Some more info on how its happening would be useful.

I had something link what you describe on a henkil male that ultimately killed him . And one of my female ebans devloped something like it on her head which I treated with silvidene(sp?) which my vet proscribed, it was cleared up in no time and shes doing fine. Hope all ends well.

sorry to answer so late, been going over some records and was really busy at work. .thank you for the tip i will give that to my vet. it seems he did everything but that culture. all of my females have died, so its back to the drawing board for me. the geckos are all quarantied for two months before put in main cage.on devleoped a raised pus like abcess on her back borught to vet given antibiotic, she died anyways. pus would leak from the wounds and the only way to stop it was some iodine. tail would fall off death in three- five days. to make along story short, this happend with just my sikores and only femal sikores. the two tanks were seperate from each other andthis went through all of them.none of my ohter gecjos died from this including a male who was in the tank with them at the time. thank you for your help and i apareciate you guys reading yhis if anybody has similar experiences please write on the fourum.

Did you keep the cages extra wet or humid at this time? Sometimes a little dry spell is good. I also have heard of vitamin E dificiency in this case but am not sure. Anyways, sorry to hear your loss, I would probably have cried!
