in this case, green didn't help much. He seems quite thin....Rostral makes it look like a Pituophis....that could use some chow....

Yeah, looks sickly thin. My gf photographed it in a pet shop.

>>What is this?

My first thoughts was a coachwhip until Mark mentioned the rostrals......I agree with a SKINNY, Two-headed Pituophis

It looks sort of like a starving rat snake to me. They should either feed it pinkies small enough for the heads to swallow or put it out of its misery.

Starving Florida pinesnake. My initial thought was coachwhip, just because it is so thin.

AdamWhite Feb 01, 2012 10:07 AM

Looks like a dead, 2-headed coachwhip.

AdamWhite Feb 01, 2012 10:09 AM

Maybe a pine snake?

denbar Feb 01, 2012 10:16 AM

It looks like possibly a pine snake, but whatever it is it must have doing well in the beginning. It appears to have aquired some size. Doesn't look too good right now. Sad.

I was thinking two headed Coachwhip too when I first seen the picture. I agree, it does look dead or starving. My girlfriend said she thought it was dead because it wasn't moving, but we all know snakes will sit perfectly still. I'm thinking pit too now that the rostral has been pointed out. I thought someone would say cribo.

Gosh,.sadly it looks to be a "skeleton morph" Southern Pine(P. melanoleucus mugitus)..aka Florida Pine Snake that might even be dead already as we speak. My GOD that poor thing is SEVERELY emaciated!!!. That snake is literally on deaths doorstep. Ross, did the store have it for sale in that horrible condition, or were they proudly displaying it as a forensic showpiece?

Very sad, because if an experienced keeper had it, it could be kept alive.

I agree, its in the wrong hands. My gf said there was no price on the cage, so maybe it was just on display.

I think the birds in your signature should be circling ABOVE that poor pine(?).

There is a very talented taxidermist/wildlife replicator poster here who is equally brilliant with cal kings who could have made that. But, if so, would have made it more lifelike/healthier. But if you are close to the place, mite you want to check it out, maybe they came upon this animal and have no idea how unhealthy it appears? Like said earlier there is substantial growth and trying big pinks or fuzzies would be way to go... I'd be curious enough to see it myself if petshop was intown... Dave

rosspadilla Feb 01, 2012 06:19 PM

This place is no where near me. Its in a pet shop in the Irvine Spectrum, which is a type of Mall located in Orange County CA. City of Irvine.

Life is like a bunch of fish in an aquarium....we all get along (bonding) until I want to eat you....and I do.

Yeah, The idea of taxidermy is to make them look "life-like", not "death-like"..

That really ticks me off to see that.
That snake is most likely not going to make it, if it isn't dead already.
Do you have the correct address for that store? If so, call the local animal control for that area, and report this immmediately.
No excuse for that whatsoever.

I do think that it looks like a Southern pine snake.
Unbelievable.

They should look like this, not that:

Genesis 1:1

DMong Feb 02, 2012 12:38 AM

and for these goons to have it proudly on display is sickening as all hell on top of it being a concentration camp victim.

Like I've said many times before, if it had big brown eyes and fluffy fur instead of scales, the store owners would be in jail before they could even sneeze, but being that it's "just" a snake,..all is good.

The two heads aren't nearly as shocking as the condition it's in.

I'm not that interested in looking into it, but there are a couple of guys trying that I know of. Its a pet shop in the Irvine Spectrum located in Irvine California.

RandyWhittington Feb 02, 2012 01:16 PM

Just wondering if it was seen moving Ross. It actually looks like it is dead in the photo. I find it hard to beleive a snake that looks that bad is alive.

rosspadilla Feb 02, 2012 02:08 PM

My gf thought it was dead. I was thinking maybe she was mistaking. It could be dead, but did it just die or is it a dried out dead snake on display? lol The cage has no substrate, so maybe it is just an exhibition piece. Its hard to say. The pet shop is in Irvine California at the Irvine Spectrum. There are a couple of people trying to contact them now.
-----

RandyWhittington Feb 02, 2012 10:39 PM

Looks like a taxidermy job gone wrong, doesn't it. lol
Hopefully that's the deal.

rosspadilla Feb 02, 2012 11:12 PM

Yeah, no doubt. Maybe its freeze dried. lol
-----

DMong Feb 03, 2012 02:22 AM

"Maybe its freeze dried"

That's what I started thinking too,.....well, at least hoping anyway.
