Thanks guys. after viewing all of your stunning mex mex photos and reading about their lineages, I took some time last night to hang out with and appreciate my pair. They are truly one of the most beautiful kings in the hobby. A keeper couldn't ask for a better captive. Mine are just old school, classic mex mex, but the awesome variations you guys are working with oughta widen the appeal of this often overlooked king. Anyway, thanks again for reminding me of how lucky I am to work with them.

I too am glad they are working with these great animals and posting examples.

IMO mex-mex are incredibly hardy snakes for an elevation species. Top notch snake for captivity.

I agree......very great captives......Not that difficult to propagate if one can provide a true brumation and not that bad to get to feed on rodents after they emerge from their eggs.......

I will always keep the separate lineages going but I feel the 'need' to produce some killer morphs.......lol

Here's Rorschach......I really like this guy's head pattern.....
His sire is the captive hatched male from gravid w/c female and the dam is a "het" for hypoerythristic......

Yeah, there are alot of fragile high elevation snakes but mex mex are really hardy. I have noticed that they are a bit more prone to getting stuck sheds than other mexicana but they seem to not be affected much at all by it. They also seem to have a stockier build than other mexicana. Ruthven's are another hardy montane snake.

Personally.....I have never had a mex mex have a stuck shed, but then again I live in humid South Texas......

Interesting. Actually when I said stuck shed I meant pieces, not the whole shed. I have to give them water when they go in the blue or they usually have pieces stick. When that happens I just put them on wet paper towels for a day or even just a few hours and it comes off but it is something I have to watch out for. And yes, Coastal CA and South TX have very different humidities.
