I am looking into getting a crested gecko. My idea for housing is to turn my 20 long aquarium on it's side. It has a sliding screen top so that won't be a problem. Are there any foreseeable issues with this or should it be good?

What would be better is if you stood it on end, making it taller for your tree dwelling gecko. VM
I think that is what the posted meant - only issue would be the substrate falling out each time you opened it. You could attach a piece of heavy plastic to the inside of the tank at the now bottom - just tall enough for the substrate.
Only bad thing is you would be reducing your footprint area - but not that much.
You can get the plastic at most hardware stores (plexi glass cut to size) or glass place
