New Balls

NYCMedic Feb 15, 2012 03:25 PM

I am new to Balls and just recently was given a pair. I got an albino male and het for spider female. What kind of babies can I expect if I succesfully breed these guys. Would the offspring be considered "valueable" or a much sought after morph? There are so many morphs of these animals I dont know whats considered "high end" . Does anyone have any pics of similar offspring? Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as het for spider. Spider is a dominant genetic trait. A snake is a spider morph or it is not. If it is a normal looking snake and you were told it is het for spider you should ask for your money back.

If you breed any snake to an albino that is not albino or het for albino then all the offspring will be 100% hets. Albino and het for albino produce a mix of hets and albinos.

If your snake is a visible spider and you breed it to the albino you would get normals het for albino and spiders het for albino. The spiders het for albino could then be bred to the albino or each other to produce albino spiders.

Hope this helps.

Very interesting! I will post some pics later of the snake in question but it looks like a normal to me. I recieved these snakes from someone who needed these animals to go to an experienced keeper because the owner who was the only one that knew the true pedigree on these animals died an untimely death. The only thing that was known that the animal was het for something and they were pretty sure it was spider but that I now know cant be. i guess I'll just hace to see what comes out

Interesting! Unfortunately, since the animal in question is a female, it would be a long process to find out what she is actually het for! My bet would be albino anyways! If you actually get albinos from those two, you've got the answer!

Beautiful snakes.

Definitely not a spider, but a lovely animal all the same. Breed them and see what comes out. If you get albinos, you will know what the het is. If all look normal breed back to the unknown het as there is 50% chance each offspring will have inherited the mystery het and you will get a morph. May take a few tries to hit.

Either way with such nice stock all the hatch-lings produced will look good, normal or not.

Best of luck with your new friends.

female has the het albino look to her...I can't see a light spot on the head....but the sides are bright....should be albino male and het albino female...as mentioned, breed them and find out...all you can do.....

Hate to break it to you, but, there is no such thing as a "het for spider"! The "spider" morph is dominant, meaning, it's either spider or it's not! on the flip side, if bred to the albino male, any offspring WILL be het for albino, since albinism is a recessive gene!

Spiders are dominant, so there are no "het spiders". That is a nice looking snake...maybe she is a het albino. Hope you can prove her out with the male albino. If she is just a nice normal, then at least all the babies would be het albinos. Good luck!
