Common Kingsnakes by Brian Hubbs

mchap30 Feb 15, 2012 06:50 PM

I just got my copy of Brians book. All I can say is WOW! He has given us current range maps and taxonomy. In the mid 90's as a teenager I received Kingsnakes and milksnakes by Ronald G. Markel. I have always seen that book as the Getula goto publication. Until now. I recommend this for everyone that has a love for Kingsnakes. Brians book is second to none.

I couldn't agree with you more - that's an awesome book!

Yep!,....I couldn't agree with you more. Nothing on the planet even comes CLOSE to Hubbs' book on the getula complex...

It makes Markel's look like a coloring book in comparison, but still a decent one to have.

Yeah, that book is really cool and the habitat shots are pretty nice too. It's nice to see all the different localities and NATURAL intergrades. I wish there was more on the Floridana locales and not so much of the "morphs". It's crazy all the different cal kings that are out there. Defiantly the best king snake book ever.

Yeah, as most of us know, all other kingsnake books only touch an a few brief paragraphs of the different subspecies at best, nothing close to entire full chapters as Hubbs' detailed book does.

agreed its great book. my only disappointment is the black and white photos imho they should have ALL been color shots, and the soft cover.

I agree, Thomas. The only problem with doing that was he had to come up with all the money himself to publish it. Then he would have had to of charged extra. Its hard enough getting 50 or 60 bucks for a book now days. I can't stand the soft cover either.

He made a few errors on the morph pictures. Hubbs can't see the difference between a dark and light melanins. He messed up my Florida king morph pics and mislabled them.

What can you expect from a curb painter who invested heavily into comic books before prices crashed.

I liked his mountain king book more. More accuracy and more exhaustive. Mountain kings were his first love and expertise..

The Cal King chapter in the book was pretty damn thorough.

He should had me write the FL king section for him.

The Cal King chapter in the book was pretty damn thorough.

Yeah it was. Cal kings are his second speciality.

"He should had me write the FL king section for him."

I would've copyedited it for you too, and would've inserted a "have" between "should" and "had"

I haven't gotten a copy yet, though, but will hopefully soon.

Yeah man, I noticed that right after I hit the post button! Too bad we don't have an edit feature on this board.
