Was wondering if anyone had any info on the record size specimen that was captured in Alachua county in Florida ? Just curious when it was found and recorded and was it preserved ?
Thanks

Yep, i would like to see it to.
Since it is a wildcaught. My guess is it's long and thin like a ratsnake.
But it would be cool, if it had some girth from feeding on ED's.

EDB's also come in neonate sizes and up.

Either way, I have seen pics of cal kings eating atrox. I have never seen a floridana eat a eastern. That would be interesting to watch.

If there were EDBs in the canefields I'm sure we'd see floridana eating EDBs. I've heard of people seeing it around Tampa in some spots. A picture was posted on this forum about 5 years ago of one from Pasco County eating a young EDB.
I caught a 66" eastern king in North Florida a couple years ago that regurged the remains of what must have been at least a 3 foot EDB.

That the Taylor county animal? That would be something to see. I wonder if that counts for the day?

Nope, that was one I flipped under tin near the ANF. I've found a lot of big kings!

I only know it was said to be 82 inches (6'10"
. It was a natural intergrade getula x floridana.

Line breed that thing and stick it down with the burms!! Should cull the herd quite a bit.

Looking at the comments I hope I haven't led anyone to believe that I'm talking about a recent capture. I believe the record King was caught in the 40's or so but I really dont know for sure. I know it to be an integrate by locale but I've always wondered if that snake leaned more one way or the other and how that played out in its appearance. There is a website that takes skeletal scans of preserved museum specimens and the one for l.g. Is represented by a specimen from the same area as the record getula. Plus it's a specimen from the 40's as well....same critter?
From the website in regards to th specimen....
This specimen was collected from Payne's Prairie, 12 miles southwest of Gainesville, Florida by A. B. Grobman and M. B. Mittleman on 2 April 1941.
Here is a link to the site with the scans. It's a great site by the way for all kinds of wildlife.

Traditionally, Payne's Prairie kings have been considered Florida kings, though they are/were almost definitely intergrades.
I may visit the FL Museum of Natural History and try to get photos of preserved specimens from that locale. I've also been curious as to what the kings looked like from there. I've heard widely varying descriptions.
